Everybody Wah by Bosco Delrey | Album Review

Having the sound of psychedelic, blues, rock and roll in your MP3 player nowadays is something quite rare when it once used to be peppered around on many a vinyl player circa 1965 when James Douglas “Jim” Morrison and The Doors first formed.

Bosco Delrey is an American who musically has the vibe of the old “Lizard King” himself. High notes playing on vintage organs incorporated into the mind-swirling guitar riffs and funky, mellow bassline with calming, echoing lyrics from our blues tinged rock and roller.

This debut album will appeal to many people. Whilst to many it appears new and fresh, Bosco brings in some mid-20th century, classical influences having a sound which seems to be put together with old analogue devices. Get Outta Dodge has a country acoustic guitar being the foundation of the track then progressing along with delectable wah-wah effects. Don Haps has a sleazy blues, rock and roll feel with harmonious background vocals echoing in support and a beat that brings the libido out in the most pretentious of souls. If anyone in the midst of their life is not drawn in by the sound of Glow Go The Bones then they have indeed had their spirit already buried. Vintage keyboards, xylophones and a few otherworldy electronic surges and swooshes will perhaps instigate an acid flashback from 40 years ago. Down We Go is straight out of an old American Bandstand show with trickling tambourines, a drum track from The Temptations and a great deal of soul. Cool Out is full out rock and roll infused with drum and bass. A track which I can’t help thinking “remix”.

Everybody Wah is crammed with quixotic vibrations, unhinged tenderness and is simply sheer class. It is a wondrous combination and eclectic mix of sounds that are missed by many and enjoyed by the masses.

This is out in the US but for UK and European residents it is only available through Beatport as it is not yet been made available.

Everybody Wah by Bosco Delrey is released by Mad Decent records and is out now.
