No Guts, No Glory by Airbourne | Album Review

Everyone loves a good rock tune. Feel-good chemicals are naturally released in the brain caused by these vibrations emitting from the stereo. When The Darkness (bless ‘em) literally pierced the charts with the voice of a wailing pussycat and classic rock, guitar strokes it stirred many a maiden, had plenty of geezers waving their hands in the form of “The Horns” generally made lots of people smile.

Here we go again. However, this time no wailing. But this is a new prescription.

Airbourne have for me come out of nowhere. In fact, from Australia, with what I would only describe as PROPER Classic Rock. The sound of AC/DC, Iron Maiden, Motorhead, Judas Priest, all acts under the true rock n roll umbrella.

These boys have done something absolutely spot on. They’ve done, absolutely, nothing new whatsoever. And that is a good thing.

The term, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” is well more than apt here. With the old school rockers bowing out gracefully, apart from Lemmy of course, these guys have just carried on from where they have all left off.

Stereotyping is uncontrollable here. Long hair, wristbands, ripped jeans, off-black T-shirts, Marshall’s and of course, of COURSE, the ESP Explorer. Everything you would ever associate with the genre is all in the package of this whisky-on-the-rocks, breaking-the-law, aces-high-octane and energetic, riff laden tuneage.

All the tracks on No Guts No Glory are headbangers. They’re quite simply brilliant. There’s no point breaking out particular tracks that stand out because from Born To Kill through to track 13, Back On The Bottle, we’ve lead guitar master-classes, 20-a-day vocals, solid, rumbling bass tones and drumming with the never excessive, high hat slamming.

The perfect formula. Outstanding.
