Stay The Same by The Shoes | Single Review

Guillaume & Benjamin are two men from Reims near Paris, France. After a friendship spanning many years from their childhood the work they have created is work stemmed from a serious love of music.
The Shoes have been around for a short while with several EP’s already undertaken. This latest release is the first single taken from their forthcoming debut self-titled album.
This could be one of those albums that becomes part of your life.
Stay The Same also has remixes from the legendary producer Etienne de Crécy, two by Isolée, Harvard Bass, another two by Siriusmo & Jan Driver, Adam Kesher, and Donovans. Two mixes are dub laced bombs but I don’t think you can improve on what is already superior.
This is a highly welcomed new act to the UK label, Southern Fried Records adding another beautiful pair to the portfolio of great musicians and acts.
The original song itself is one of those rare delights in my eyes, ears and mind. Subtle and sweet almost depressingly bouncing along with warming vocals sung by Esser with a touch of sadness which empathically captivates. It is wonderful vocal electronica or modern pop. Similar perhaps to LCD Soundsystem, Hot Chip maybe and possibly The Cure but more so, Depeche Mode. There is an element of new romantic but in truth, it’s similar but not the same.
The video is slightly shocking as it appears to deal with mental health issues as the lead character struggles to deal with many thoughts going around his mind at once and eventually losing it after witnessing a passer-by who appears to have already succumbed to the pressures that life can throw at you. I was fully taken aback when I first watched immediately after it was uploaded. It is my favourite song at the moment.
This is definitely an act to remember.
Stay The Same is out now and the album release of Crack My Bones is March 7th 2011.
