The Place We Ran From by Tired Pony | Album Review

The Place We Ran From by Tired Pony | thetruejoe90.com

Once again, I’ve come across a song which has stopped me in my tracks due to the sheering chills emitting and pulsing up and down my spine from the top of my neck to the tips of my nails on each limb.

This effect has occurred many times before. Gary Lightbody has that effect on many people which is why his band Snow Patrol have had masses of success on both sides of the pond with their tracks behind the scenes of many a romantically based script.

On this outing – under the title of Tired Pony – we have Lightbody accompanied and shrouded with experience from Peter Buck of REM mainly being the supporting influence alongside with Producers from here there and everywhere, session musicians linked with the ‘Patrol in recent and early days. Tom Smith from Editors doing a track. The drummer from Belle & Sebastian. Collaborators left, right and centre who are established in their own right and who have come together to make a Country/Rock record pretty much, just for the heck of it.

When you listen to something like this it can genuinely make you feel something that makes you shudder. That is exactly what we have on The Place We Ran From.

Dead American Writers is my favourite -video below – with Joseph Gilgun from Shane Meadows‘ incredible This Is England. The Good Book sung by Editors’ Tom Smith and Get On The Road featuring Zooey Deschanel are exceptional tracks. I swear that Get On The Road will be one of those songs that we will come to adore and will be played at many an emotional get-together. Poetic lyrics, sublime strings, soul which emanates and caresses with such warmth.

I find the release of this is beautifully timed for the cosy Autumnal evenings ahead. It is an honest and delightful record.
