Bon Iver, Bon Iver by Bon Iver | Album Review

The sweet and serene vocals are similar to the harmonies of the Fleet Foxes and the electro-acoustic, chilled-out melodies are calming, soothing and rather paternal. With twinkling triangles, bicycle bells, electronic sound effects all wrapping around the impeccable acoustic guitaring the overall sound is nothing short of majestic
When you listen to certain types of music it can take you away from the realities of life and can be a delightful form of escapism. Dance music you tend to dance. Rock music is full of passion and energy but occasionally aggressive or moody. Music such as this latest release from Bon Iver on the almost self-titled album, Bon Iver, Bon Iver is whatever form of escapism that you care for it to be.

Big hugs come invisibly along with every track with the emotions of honesty, affection and a mental dreamscape of lullaby-esque scenarios. the last track on the album, Beth – Rest is an amazing record. Admittedly, I return to the 80′s and think of the likes of Peter Cetera and Berlin because of the synths, the sliding guitars and the slumped mood of the track. The song Calgary – below – is an incredible piece of material. The video is crossed between Alice In Wonderland and Pan’s Labyrinth.
This is very much a beautiful work of art. The collaborations of session musicians from other artists’ bands come in and add the wondrous flavour of wisdom and expertise to the songs which were penned by Justin Vernon – who, I might add will definitely receive awards for this record.
The album Bon, Iver, Bon Iver from Bon Iver is out now released by 4AD Records.
