Move Higher by Sub Focus

14 May

This man Sub Focus is just sheer class! Recently, any track he touches or produces is an absolute stormer. Personally, I’ll be in the Dance tent at any festival he is at this Summer because I guarantee it’ll be a set to remember forever.

Where’s My Money by TC The Caspa Remix

14 May

Caspa dropping some serious bass on this revisited tune by TC which was just too far ahead of it’s time upon it’s original release in October ’08. Just goes to show who’s got it going down. Caspa is Dubstep royalty for sure. Fair play for TC laying down an awesome foundation for the rework.

The Black Keys

11 May

I will never say to other people that I know a lot about music. It is impossible to hear about everything that goes on in the World around us. So many times there are bands that don’t get the break that they need to be able to unleash the terrific tunes that they conceive. Sometimes they manage to do it but they don’t get heard by everyone in their targeted demographic. The record company’s sometimes fail on the Artists behalf.

I am just wondering how an awesome band such as The Black Keys have totally deserted my radar though.

I’ve never heard of them up until yesterday. I am entirely overwhelmed by the glorious psychedelic, Bluesy-Rock sound which could put many a 60′s Woodstock band to utter shame. This is superb!

BROTHERS is their 8th studio album – 9th if you count their collaborating work on Blackroc released last year – and I swear it is the most excellent piece of production I’ve heard quite possibly ever.

Having a sound that is so reminiscent to the likes of – Better still in fact – MUMFORD & SONS meeting THE DOORS on a comedown Sunday afternoon after a LED ZEPPELIN and ROLLING STONES joint venture.

Lyrically, every song tells a story. Musically this album is Harmonious Blues with a moody Rock and Indie style that sweetly hums along as an autobiographical moment to whatever stage of your life you’re currently in.

There is a song for everyone. I’m not going to go through all of them because quite honestly, it should only take one or two of them.

I am gong backwards for a change, checking out their previous material. I believe this is a great piece of songwriting. Awards will be magnetised to this record without doubt. And if I’m wrong, that means those who decide where the awards go to, are seriously very wrong indeed.

BROTHERS is released on the 18th May. For goodness sake, please your heart, soul and mind and get it. Pre-order it here. You won’t mind selling your soul to this. And yeah, you’ve got to watch the video’s below to meet Frank the Funkasaurus Rex.

Many thanks to npr.com/music for indirectly allowing me to do this review. To hear the album in it’s entirety before release, CLICK HERE! And pre-order it by clicking the iTunes link below.

Black Rock by Joe Bonamassa

18 Apr

BLACK ROCK is the latest release from the Blues/Rock guitaring maestro that is, Joe Bonamassa.

I could say living legend but if he has only recently passed my ears then I’ve either my head in the sand or his riffs haven’t carried over to me far enough.

Having recently played at the Royal Albert Hall with living legend Eric Clapton – that was more appropriate I think – I noticed his performance is truly heartfelt, honestly passionate and very powerful too.

This is the kind of mature music my father would have listened to and loved. Now I have to say, being as the candles are further burning for me, I am falling for this too. This is done the way it should be.

He has great soul and a voice that simply speaks the truth. I have found that Blues music to this degree with quoting any movies has to be lived and experienced to be able to genuinely sing and play it with your heart and spirit. He feels the music he sings, it’s a part of him and the guitaring is a blessing. I have heard many acts over the years doing their best to eminate the greats but it is such a refreshing experience for me to listen to a great with some up-to-date – already – classics. Blue & Evil just rock.

The video below doesn’t get any fresher either.

Have One On Me by Joanna Newsom

14 Apr

IF there was ever a voice that managed to captivate you. Place you into a dumb trance because of the sweet delights released from the vocal chords as well as the delectable vibrations emanating from a glorious harp. This is a voice that will certainly do that. What a trance I am now in.

The Lady is Joanna Newsom. An angelic voice with a subtle yet twisted feel. She will break you down. Disintegrate all negativity putting you into a warm blanket that are her sweet, sweet vocals.

Almost piercing your ear drums, strong even though the sound is so delicate. Like Minnie Riperton, other-worldy the same as Tori Amos and no-one can deny the resemblance to the fabulous Kate Bush. Amazing.

With pianos, harps and a singing style like hers there is no wonder the Folk world have kept her a secret to me. I am slightly taken a back with the storm sensation that is, Joanna Newsom. With several releases under her bohemian style belt I am annoyed to have not heard any material before Have One On Me – the work I am currently listening to – a 3 disc delight.

This is summer nights when the afternoon garden party has seized and the curtains are about to be drawn, lounging on the decking with the dregs of the red wine bottle as the sun is about to set whilst swinging in the hammock softly to the music.

Roll on summer!

Days Go By by Dirty Vegas

A deep, soulful, funky house classic that I should think will never die out. Great live as a band and the DJ sets are well worth a visit. Everyone needs some version of this in their collection. I’m making it Law.

Call & Response by James Harcourt

There are times when you can tell a good track right from the first couple of bars. This player was put up before the track had even dropped. I’m waiting for it as I type this. Here it comes.. OOOOOO!

Giorgio Maurader by Myagi

Seems like we’ve tapped into the Breaksbeats folder on the desktop that time forgot! Myagi exploding the energy out into into the crowd, onto the floor with this underground, clubland pearler.

The Rollers by NAPT feat Skibadee

I have put this up before but it’s such a tune it has to have the attention once more. An incredibly well balanced script of material with the highs and lows spread to the point of defining the word Immaculate.

Music Is My Weapon by Hedflux The Far Too Loud Remix

Imagine dancing in a field in the pouring rain in the early hours of the morning having enjoyed a full day out, and then this bad boy comes on. Just divine! The effort all of these boys do putting it into their work is top dollar.

Keep your ears wide open and your finger tips blazing the keyboard in search for more Broken Robot Records releases. Clicking THIS will send you on that journey.
