Wonder by WAT | Album Review

Wonder is the first album by a French based act called
This material is electro-punk-rock with a slight disco dance vibe tinged with grunge style vocals. Energy spews out of the speakers with the old school Seattle zeal one moment soon followed by a New York funky, elated sensation the next.
When listening to an album such as this, I keep finding myself checking to see if I have the right one on. I don’t know if I’m listening to a Nirvana, The Whip or Chromeo. It is positively diversified. Great talent.
There are one or three serious stand-out tracks on this LP. Kill Kill is one of them which has a hip hop edge similar to Kano or Kanye West work. A remix has done by colleague label act Costello which has arisen on Kissy Sell Out’s show on BBC Radio 1 recently. Odyssee sounds like it has come from the studios of Daft Punk or Justice – who also both happen to be French acts – and the other main stand out track is Missile. Now this is a track which has got an awesome sinister finish. I can easily fathom myself half smashed on the club floor to this, loving the verve and singing together in unison with the rest of the crowd. This is one of those tracks which sells tickets. I must say though, that it is crying out for a minimal dubstep or tech house rework. It would work really well I’m sure. I see some potential in that record. I’m almost offended by the fact that I can not find a remix nor do I know of one.
‘Wonder by WAT’ is out now released by Boxon Records.
