The A Team by Ed Sheeran | The Original, Koan Sound, True Tiger & Shy FX Remixes | Single Review | Official Music Video

New artists are continually coming through and getting noticed. Just lately, there is one chap in particular who is making waves after releasing his first EP which hit the higher spots on a few chart lists without any promotional aid. A rare move nowadays.
Ed Sheeran is a singer and songwriter with a sun-ripe voicebox and a talent for beach-bum guitaring – the kind of guitar sound that is rich, soothing and comforting without being overly complicated. He also has some very credible collaborations included within this “early in his career” release. The remixes are all stellar versions of the original but rather than a total reboot we have the utmost support for the lyrics with warm dubs from Koan Sound who still includes the sweet violin trinklets. True Tigers‘ attempt has the odd electro tweak making the original sound more synthetic and building up a progressive vibe which soon drops into a sultry, strong wub that floats along delightfully.
The version which grabs me more would have to be Shy FX’s Ackee And Saltfish Remix. This is basically a reggae dancehall feel, a classic Jamaican feel, a beautiful sunshine feel. A few trumpets, the classic palm-muted electric guitar riff and a bassline which now controls the level of your heart-rate.
All of these are absolutely terrific in their own way. Brilliant.
Not only would I keep my eyes and ears out for Ed Sheeran’s work, but also for his remixes as he is a magnet for talent in other genres.
The A Team by Ed Sheeran is released by Atlantic Records on June 12th 2011.
