When I listen to a track I tend to give it as much time as possible, I like to feel the record and not just hear it. A lot of producers tend to skim through the track checking out the intro, the mid section and look out for the drop. For me, there must be tension, anxiety and excitement and after checking out the tunes on @scarcityrecords’ latest release by Parallax Breakz from Ukraine, the ‘Stranger’ EP certainly has those traits.

The track is supported with remixes and on this original version we have some industrious, psychedelic breaks going on. A big room trance aura with a clean stomping drum track, dirty mids and a clanging bass echoing away, pushing the tune forward.

To be fair, this remix by Diistortiion does take it up a level. Heading towards a more electro-breaks vibe the resonating filth within this material is awe inspiring. The relentless barrage of depth from the hammering mids alters the level of natural chemicals in your brain causing your face to resemble that of New Zealand rugby players preparing for their big game. Wonderfully balanced out by the harmonious bleeps levelling out the tune. Very awesome indeed and my pick of the fruitful bunch.

The Funkrash alter it all over again with a version that comes with more tech vibes. This frantic breaks remix is an onslaught of glitches and choppy beats which comes across very complex and in chaos but in fact, it is very well put together acidic madness.

Even though Drum and Bass has never gone away is has certainly had a facelift over recent months with the incursion of dubstep and of course technology. Phrea Spirit has taken some of the classic elements and mashed them up with some of the new in this DnB take and depending on how you see and hear it, I find it an absolute delight. Easy going, chilled and wondrously laid back with a cheeky, warbling dubstep break.

A nice, big, fat and juicy release.
