Star Time by DJ Melo | EP Review

Star Time EP - DJ Melo - thetruejoe90.com

There’s only a small handful of people who are managing to push it out to the masses because there are so many poor releases of this microgenre spanning out across the web, because it is slow in pace and appears simple, everyone who has Logic and a Mac believes that they can pull it off. I don’t care if @azdjmelo has or not but he can certainly pull it off.

We’ve all heard of moombahton by now so instead of going through the rigmarole of explaining it and the story from whence it came, let’s just get down to one of the main guys who is making it happen.

There’s only a small handful of people who are managing to push it out to the masses because there are so many poor releases of this micro-genre spanning out across the web, because it is slow in pace and appears simple, everyone who has Logic and a Mac believes that they can pull it off. I don’t care if @azdjmelo has or not but he can certainly pull it off.

On this outing with the ‘Star Time EP’ we have some seriously wondrous tunes with originals and remixes and as per, we begin with the title track itself kicking off with the some heavy drum beats bordering on tribalism with the trippy and cutting Dutch style riffs. It’s a party piece for sure and the remix by Lithuanian producer Boyfriend adds a touch more tropical bounce along with a tweak in the bass adding a big room vibe.

‘Topless Riddim’ brings out the bongos and the flavour of this one is quite simple, raunchy. Dutch producer Fellow tones down the almost splintering pitches to a more subtle, sexier approach.

The last work that I caught of DJ Melo was when he was working alongside @picksterone on the free download EP of Arizonation which I believe as far as downloads go, it went very, very well indeed and he returns on this next piece of material which really does it for me. This track is ‘Heater’ and this is now my ‘Track Of The Week’ It’s got such a captivating and alluring hook in it’s midst which I think is divine whilst Sazon Booya has his take injecting some grime along with some psychotropic resonance.

‘The Comeback’ is a solid beat with teasing tones and ‘Lunar Eclipse’ has got a heart rate altering hum that you can feel in your core which is a contrast to the track ‘Corrosion’, a sweet and charming tune with a choir vocalising in the background uplifting your soul. It’s quite spellbinding.

In fact, it’s quite an assortment of moombahton tunes when they can sound very “samey” in a lot of people’s ears and minds. This is a varied mix but again, ‘Heater’ for me is fascinating.

The ‘Star Time’ EP by DJ Melo is released by Think 2wice Records and is available from October 11th 2011. Bookmark this site or subscribe to stay updated.
