Relapse by ShockOne ft Sam Nafie w/ The Tantrum Desire Remix [DnB Dubstep]

Sometimes, every now and then a tune will be released that alters a musical genre forever. The Prodigy did that. Pendulum did that. Sub Focus did that. But imagine if there was a tune that contained all of these influences and then some? This is Relapse, the latest release from the forthcoming ShockOne album and my goodness me, this is going to be huge!

Over the last few years there have been certain artists that have changed genres of music forever. The Prodigy were one of the first of the modern day acts to “take things further”, crossing genres and mixing things up and stirring them about. Pendulum managed to do the same but they came from the other side. I do not mean the planet but that too is correct. Instead of coming from the dance scene moving into the more metallic of beats, it was vice versa for the Australian bunch of DJ rockers. But since two of the boys eventually went off to do Knife Party, one of them stayed in Oz and under the moniker of @therealshockone and then soon, drum and bass music changed forever.

From Karl Thomas’ forthcoming debut album release next year, to tease us further ‘Relapse’ will not just wet your appetite, it will make you wet full stop.

The tune is released in 3 formats. The original has a radio edit and there is a drum and bass remix but the original dubstep beast has a grunge aura that I sorely miss. It is quite Pendulum-esque of course but it makes you wonder who in fact was or is the musical brains behind the band with a tune like this. Harmonic, graceful and filthy. It is a sure fire hit and is an immense record indeed with flowing vocals from Sam Nafie simmering within the electronic beats.

With the absence of Sub Focus just recently I miss the vibrancy, the audacity and the freaky frenzy of his material but the London based duo @JTantrumDesire have certainly taken the mantle that he would have been in possession of. This drum and bass remix has a sweet, symphonious groove with a lyrical build-up that stomps into a screaming break and then the magic begins. I have the spinal chills after listening to this. It is gutsy, coordinated, frantic and immense. And, it has been on repeat for the last hour or so.

This is just a stunning release and if the tunes are going to be like this on the forthcoming album ‘Universus’, I’m getting in the queue for it now because next year, bass music is only going to get fatter.

‘Relapse’ by ShockOne ft Sam Nafie w/ The Tantrum Desire Remix is released by Viper Recordings and is out now exclusively on Beatport and the full release is on December 5th 2011. (Check out the gig displayed in the top banner on this very site or the video at the bottom of this post. That also, will be huge!)
