Having done extremely well with single releases with members of the Croydon dubstep massive, Katy B will not forget her friends as she continues to pursue a solo career with great success. On A Mission is certainly what Katy seems to be on. A couple of top ten hits with no album release for a debut artist is quite unheard of. At the beginning of last week, the streetwise folk all knew who Katy B was before this compilation of nectarous material hit the stores.

Most of us already know of the tracks, Katy On A Mission with the fantastically accord, Benga. Perfect Stranger with Beni again alongside the other gems that are Artwork and Skream performing as Magnetic Man. The Ms Dynamite collaboration, Lights On and the most recent being Broken Record – below. All in all, a credible composite of current London town, dance music, elite.

The entire album is incredibly well balanced, sound wise. The highs match the lows so it is beautifully levelled. Why You Always Here is a prime example as well as being sultry and sensuous. Witches Brew would surely be the next single release as it has a great floor-filler feel. It is a great pop record. Movement has a more beach club vibe, the kind that you’d associate with the Hed Kandi brand. Go Away is the track that would put her name in lights in the US – akin to the girls of Destiny’s Child. The consistency goes on.

As far as debut albums go, this is first-rate record. Candied and aerial vocals over plump bass-lines in an RnB style isn’t even something that the divas or pap-magnets in the American music industry have managed to achieve. They still will try but no perfection will be achieved no matter how hyped up the record company promotes them.
