Natural Born Killers by Specimen A | EP Review

Natural Born Killers EP by Specimen A | thetruejoe90.com

Sterling work indeed on the production side of this EP release and a great deal of fun listening and dancing to it. Massive support from the likes of Rusko, Pendulum, True Tiger (who are getting huge at the moment) and many more of our favourites.

I’ve been waiting to tell you about this release, it’s ridiculous. I’ve never heard an EP with so many varieties of bass, it’s ridiculous. Three genre defining tracks of dubstep, drum & bass and electro house. Each one of them, ridiculous!

Of course I mean ‘ridiculous’ in a positive manner.

The first track on the EP is Midnight Howl which some of us have know about for some time. This is the electro house number with vocal samples from Wilson Pickett’s Midnight Hour along with additional barkings at the moon, distant woodland growls and trumpets. Full of progressive wahs, glitches and tremors it’s one fun track indeed and quite imaginative.

Jaws is the second piece if material which is dubstep like you’ve perhaps never heard before. The sinister waves of sound, high pitched screaming and a bloody, meaty buffet of bass with the ominous signature playings of the almighty cello supporting the tellings of Captain Quint. A big clubland stomper of a tune.

For the drum and bass lovers, we have Flying Saucer. The sturdy drum beat is there for the pace but some serious alien electro effects warp around the kick drum, dubby warbles invade the dynamic electro streams of classic laser vibrations taken from black and white TV shows. Intricate, humourous and immense bass. Brilliant.

The Natural Born Killers EP by Specimen A is release by Funkatech Records and is out on July 18th 2011. The promo video to the release – below – is well funny.
