To The Stars by Feed Me | EP Review

Listening to the snippet of ‘To The Stars’, you can hear similarities to deadmau5′s work. The sustain on organ notes, the progressive, bass drum-beat and the style of the drop taking you somewhere where you never thought you’d go to.
Right, ok. I know these are only clips of the tunes on Feed Me‘s forthcoming EP release ‘To The Stars’ but I’m still shivering slightly after the spinal chills I’ve received from listening to these potential dancefloor destroyers. So really, rather than a review, it’s a heads-up. But what the hey.
From the drum and bass arenas of London town, Jon Gooch aka Spor has evolved and grown into Feed Me by putting on his genre crossing hat and sticking his fingers into a couple of electro house pies. His climb has been astonishing and to be honest, I think it’s great that he has done so well. A friend of mine asked me if I had ever heard of him, I said No. Then he chucked a few expletives my way and told me to pull my finger out. When I discovered Spor’s work, even back then, I was astonished just like what I am now.
‘Strange Behaviour’ features the exquisite vocalist Tasha Baxter who has worked with Feed Me before on his first EP, ‘Feed Me’s Big Adventure’. This is an incredibly well-balanced track. The highs emitting from Tasha are levelled out by the rich and juicy trembling bassline weaving in and out of the verses and chorus. This would be a dubstep remixers opening for some serious wrong-doing.
On the track ‘Pink Lady’ there is an awesome dutch-house style, high pitched riff which could welcome the new moombahtonistas. The subtle twinkling of the piano keys on this track reminds me of ‘The Power Of Love’ by Frankie Goes To Hollywood. The progressive tease up to the drop is similar to that of Christmas morning where as an eight year old child, you’re awaiting to open your presents because you’ve been waiting long enough.
The last track is ‘Chain Smoker’. This sixty a day gravelly bassline bounces with a beat rock-steady and builds well into a very “I-don’t-give-a-damn” attitude. But, for what happens next, we’ll have to wait and see.
I can’t wait to get my mittens on these bod boys.
To Mr Thomas Hunt. Nice one, dude for introducing me to the work of Jon Gooch.
‘To The Stars’ EP by Feed Me is released by mau5trap records and will be exclusive to Beatport out on June 3rd 2011.
