Specimen A are without doubt one serious collaborative talent. After classical music training, developing drum and bass, rising up through the breakbeat scene quicker than most acts they have firmly set themselves as permanent fixture in the Beatport charts as they now dabble with the dubstep as well with their latest release Chasing Shadows featuring vocalist, David Ivan.

The original cut is a vocal dubstep number with an RnB lyrical flow with squeaks and blips down to a minimum but the bassline wubs steer the track comfortably. The breakstep mix has a touch more pace but it doesn’t bash you about. Subtle and steady with a few quirky dub effects making this a firm filler track. Pyramid however, have turned the track into something else. More industrious wobbles, a tough dubstep grime with the husky and substantial bass weaving in and out and then flipping to some insidious and breezy piano riffs, it’s lovely.

The Pyramid remix can quite easily go global and it should do, it’s a sterling record. If you’re out and about in the coming days and the DJ doesn’t play this record, you want to tell him about it.
