Blinded By The Light EP by Smooth [DnB Dubstep]

Blinded By The Light EP by Smooth - Viper Recordings | thetruejoe90.com

Blinded By The Light is a highly spirited and vivacious release out now from Viper Recordings from hard hitting and hammering drum and bass to the more fluid, relaxing and sweet sounds of warmth and depth. This release shows talent and character. It will do well.

Frantic dance-floor mayhem now ensues with this banging release from 25 year old Slovenian producer of DnB, Smooth. This EP contains tracks that will have you shaking in your boots due to the menacing chills vibrating up and down your spine because of the sheering mids and hammering bassline.

That’s pretty much an accurate description of the first tune on this latest instalment from Viper Recordings who are very much becoming the go-to label for all things drum and bassy. ‘Cosmos’ kicks off with a build-up that brings in tension and excitement and then drops straight into your face. It is hard not to say that this is very much akin to the work of Sub Focus, but that is not a bad thing. A driving beat, forceful mids with wubs and wahs that will make your body move in ways that you never thought possible with the rest of the beautiful crowd going berserk.

‘Cyber Funk’ kind of tells you about the track already. A fusion of electro weaved within the DnB bounce alongside the additional funk element makes this a right party starter and stops any party from dying. A track such as this sows the seed for the creation of mosh pits and moshing, bouncing and general chaos will occur to these frenetic rhythms.

Having the dubstep treatment is ‘Shifting Sands’ which features the singing talents of Shaz Sparks on both this and the DnB version. With an aura of a trance vocalist and a musical beginning to match, the tune progresses and then the subtle keyboard riffs momentarily sink into a drop which then morphs them into monstrous and choppy, bassline beasts. It has a grandiose vibe and is far more vibrant than your usual dubstep tuneage. The DnB take is not as filthy. It rolls along nicely with charm, grace and is actually, really quite lovely. Capable of hitting prime-time radio? I should think so.

As most of us are getting over the January blues, ‘Brighter Days’ makes you ready for Summertime and you’d be wishing that the festival season was upon us when listening to this. Full of the liveliness and positivity that you would get with an upbeat house track and a pace of great fun and smiles.

The title track ‘Blinded By The Lights’ is quite simply a pleasure. The natural endorphins are released thanks to a combination of bass, pace and a splendid riff. Nothing more to say on this track, it is just an adorable record with an uplifting feel and great warmth. It is the DnB tune of the Summer and we’ve not even hit February.

On a contrasting note, the last track ‘From Within’ takes us down a much darker route. Choirs harmoniously bringing the track in soon turn to sordid drum ticks, hammering bass tones and grime covered mids with growling subs and screams coming from afar.

As far as drum and bass goes this covers quite a few angles with smooth sailing one moment and then dirt, filth and smudged effects the next. Sterling production. This shows @lukasmooth has great talent, heart and passion with a soft spot for the naughty stuff.

Blinded By The Light EP by Smooth is out now now released by Viper Recordings.
