“Every dog has it’s day” is a phrase many of us have heard before. Even the phrase coined by Andy Warhol “In the future, everybody will be world famous for 15 minutes. In the future everyone will have their fifteen minutes of fame”. Now it is the turn of a dance music genre which is not creeping away but surging from it’s roots held in the America and is sweeping across the world with only a few people putting out tracks with the essences of this particular category.
Firstly. Scroll down and press play on the first track Fat Booty and then come back and read on. I’m about to convert you if you haven’t been already.
To introduce it in the shortest way possible, the core aspects of Moombahton is this track Moombah by Silvio Ecomo & Chuckie, remixed by Afrojack slowed down to a mid tempo stomp at about 108 beats per minute. This is exactly what producer, Dave Nada did at his cousins party in the autumn or fall of 2009. The speed reduction of this dirty dutch house track makes the overall sound appear to be more like Reggaeton – a latin urban style of music. Sultry and sexy and with a more flavoursome vibe with ingredients of tropical house, dancehall and West-Indian musical ingredients. Very percussive electronica. The sound emitting is basically “Wine, women and song in the sunshine on the dancefloor”.
That is descriptive of the genre and incredibly descriptive of this awesome EP from DJ’s Pickster One and Melo who have released this EP. Each of the tunes that appear to be quite complex are utter perfection. Fat Booty has a deep, punchy calypso-like bassline with vocals that make your day complete. Keep The Dice Rolling is more on the techy side with a progressive drum beat. Latin lovers would appreciate El Dificil with the provocative and flirtatious, late night swagger it brings. Waistline has a latino tech feel. It teases you into this exploding grimey drop which you don’t expect with glitches giving you that seductive one raised eyebrow look. Melo’s Don’t Make Me Wait has a sleazy drum beat supported with an echoing funky bassline teasing you with flips over to a more minimal, high-pitched jazz. Possibly my personal favourite because I am fond of the deep bassline variety would not go amiss in the dubstep set, Going Out To The Hardcore does it for big-time. The last track is a remix of a Dry River Yacht Club track, Sweaty Sax. A band from Arizona full of woodwinds, violins, brass and percussion. The tune itself is an onslaught of tribal style banging, a smudged bassoon riff and vocals that melt.
