As the Spanish label Elektroshok Records continue to deliver to us some cracking Breakbeat releases their sub-label for the more severe bassline appreciator continues to surprise. With the latest offering coming from Gibraltar in the name of Dubsective, I have not heard anything quite so rejuvenating and exciting as this for time. The is a new Glitch Hop definition with some serious Dubstep style bass effects.
By far the best funky, dubstep beats to come out since @Bassnectar – in my honest opinion – new guy to the scene from Gibraltar @Dubsective is releasing his latest with the Rough Division of Elektroshok Records. This is wicked stuff.
> '112'
Starting the proceedings to what I can only assume to be an EP of 112bpm beats, the title track ’112′ begins rather strangely. For a start, if you tend to skim through a track in a matter of a few seconds to see if it floats your boat of not you will probably miss too much of this funk laden, dubstep style beast. The main riff of the track to be fair is not anything particularly captivating. The track builds with a cheesy fairground type tune and it can be immediately off-putting but it grows and slows and then it rumbles and boom goes the drop. Then it’s a straight sale. Ferocious roars, hammering bass tones and the occasionally humourous, broken guitar string effect teeters in and out of the main rhythm. It is quite basic in parts some may feel but altogether this is really quite awesome.
> 'Aspekt
Track two is ‘Aspekt’ and this is hard because the battering bassline will deliver a severe headache to the untrained listener. A sweet 8-bit melody hovers over the core part of the track which is aforementioned the battering bassline along with a rock hard, no-nonsense drum track. A sturdy and relentless, infectious groove with some snappy glitching.
> 'Shifter'
‘Shifter’ is the final piece of kit on the EP and perhaps my favourite out of the three simply because it is more mental than the previous two. Implementing a touch of funk into the lighter riff of the tune it then moulds itself within the austere bass bounce, fused and wavering between the highs and lows. It is absolutely tremendous and such a fun track. This is the new definition of Glitch Hop. If it is not then it is definitely a new door for new appreciators to come in and appreciate the style.
I have heard some beats similar to this before but this is sterling stuff. Let the bass kick!
The ’112 EP’ by Dubsective is out now released by the sub-label of Elektroshok Records, Rough Division.
